Teresa and Harold Hagans, Jr.

The Hagans have made a commitment to the Norfolk State University Foundation, Inc., with a gift of life insurance. Harold, a member of the Class of 1971, recounted the motivation for giving to NSU. "My road toward planned giving began about 33 years ago with my membership in the Norfolk Chapter of the NSU Alumni Association. It continued when, a few years later, I joined the Military Alumni Chapter where I contributed by serving in several roles and leadership positions. It was during this time, about 25 years ago that I met a Senior Navy Officer, a graduate of another HBCU, who told me of his journey to giving back by stating a monthly payroll allotment to his alma mater. I knew immediately that this was something that I must do also. I started with a very modest allotment of $35 per month. Over the years I increased my allotment when I received annual pay raises. Now my contributions to Norfolk State University sustain my membership in the Visionary Society and allows me to contribute a gift of life insurance."
